Despite a disappointing end to the season, Spike Logan of the Albuquerque Dukes will be entering the record books for a very different reason: he's the new record-holder for batting average.
Logan hit .369 for the Dukes in season three, besting the previous mark of .368, which was set by Ray Sweeney of the Huntington Heroes in season two.
Logan enjoyed a breakout season for the Dukes, who finished with 97 wins and ended up making their second straight ALCS appearance. Besides a batting title, Sexson hit 38 home runs and drove in 126 runners. He also set career highs in runs (128) and stolen bases (21). Sexson emerged as one of the game's elite all-around hitters when teamed with fellow superstars Phil Maxwell and Albert Wall.
It comes as no surprise that Albuquerque led all teams in batting average, hitting an astounding .311 as a team. That team average also sets a record, one which was previously held by Colorado in season one.
Congratulations go out to Logan and the Albuquerque Dukes franchise for this accomplishment.
