We've got our usual power teams in complete control of their respective divisions, such as Boston, Albuquerque, and Louisville to name a few.
We've got close division races which will ultimately decide just who gets the title and who goes for the Wild Card, such as Durham/Toledo in the NL East and St. Louis/everyone else in the AL South.
So, what exactly is this world missing?
We need a team to make a bold statement. We need somebody to go against the grain, to stand up and say, "Hey! Here I am! Here's what I'm going to do! And nobody is going to stop me!".
Do we have somebody like that in this world?
Why yes, we do. Look no further than the AL North, and the Montreal Shamrocks.
I know what you're thinking, Montreal? Are you serious? They dismantled their whole team!!
That may be true. However, that team has something now that they've always had. And it could eventually mean the difference in the AL North Title race.
What is it? Owner TomHighway, that's what.
He's loud. He's bold. And yes, he's down right obnoxious at times.
Look past all that, he can flat out run an organization.
He had a team which won 109 in S1, and 107 in S2. That's 216 games, for you math illiterates out there.
And what did he do? He tore the team apart.
Phil Maxwell? GONE!
Randy Nicholas? SEE YA!
Bruce Shea? OUTTA THERE!
Tom Lofton? GET THE F- Well, you get the idea.
Now before you ask if I'm all doped up before writing this entry, yes I'm well aware his club is currently under .500. But who else has the guts to do this? To take apart a team that consistently won 100 games.
If I asked Coonja to do that, he'd probably tell me to stop smoking crack. And I wouldn't blame him one bit.
I spoke to TH recently, and does he regret the move? You decide for yourself.
"Earlier in the month, Kyle Keough interviewed me about my intentions regarding the season. I told him Montreal was winning the division. A month later and only 4 games out, I still say we're gonna win it."
Man, he sure is confident, huh? Too confident for a sub .500 team?
"Toronto and SLC better bring their 'A' game, because I am going to take them to the woodshed!"
Wow, big words there!
"Their ass is grass, and I'm the lawnmower!"
Oh yeah! Another good one..
"They're like a classic car, always gettin' waxed!"
Okay okay, we get the idea.
"Here's a 5.00 bill, go buy yourself a game!"
Hmmm, okay that last one didn't even make sense to me. And he's starting to sound rather ridiculous right now..
..but you have to give it to TH. He's got something that this world could use a lot more of.
The guts to tear a team apart, start from scratch, and talk mad trash about it.
Will it work out for TH? Will he win the division? Or will he fall flat on his face?
We'll wait to find out...
