State of a Franchise: Honolulu Asahis

Opey Higgins
DOUBLEDAY DAILY

Honolulu, Hawaii

In Doubleday there hasn't been an owner as quiet as Honolulu's Graybeard. This owner has been pretty satisfied with his team over the 3 season's he's been running the show but one thing is becoming obvious. Honolulu is not improving, From a 1st place under .500 finish in season 1 they have won more games but missed the playoffs and ended the season in 2nd and then 3rd.. Could this season be 4th place? RF Chris Marte was interviewed the other day and he didn't say much. What we did gather from the conversation is that he's disappointed in himself.

Marte: " I'm batting .217.. I am just as much a reason for us not being on top as anyone."

Rumor has it Honolulu's owner said they were trying to get younger. The world is just waiting to see what he has in store for all of us in his attempt to do so. Meanwhile Omaha and Oakland are running away with the NL West. I'm sure if Honolulu is willing to part with guys like 3B Clayton Guererro and SP Ricky Grimsley something will probably happen. Huntington's been searching for a SP and I hear Cleveland and Anaheim are also in the market to try getting some major talent in exchange for prospects.

Could one of those teams end up making a move? Or will Honolulu end up keeping the guys that have been loyal for so long?
