Doubleday Update

Coming into this season everyone probably expected a few teams to be front runners all year.. Some of you probably thought Louisville would be the team to beat again. People also probably thought AL MVP Ralph Hume and NL MVP Wesley Smith would be returning to the throne as the greatest in the League.. Well so far that all hasn't been done, Louisville has a good record but they are only the 4th best in the Majors. AL MVP Ralph Hume is having a good year but he isn't anywhere close to being MVP this year probably falling 25+ home runs short of his last year total. NL MVP Wesley Smith is doing Much worse... can we really see why? It could be the stronger pitching? It also could be some of the transactions that have happened this year.

A few surprises that HAVE happened this year in the AL.. El Paso Sunkings have found themselves in first place. That very same Franchise ended last season in 3rd place. 2B Timothy Simpson was around for an interview earlier today and he made a few things very clear. Simpson: "We are a major player in the AL this year. We swept Boston the former AL Champs and we are on our way to being crowned the AL Champs this year.At this point I don't think Montreal, Albuquerque or Philadelphia have a shot to take us out."

Those other teams didn't comment right away after hearing that statement from Simpson but Owner Mr. Rootgargle of the Albuquerque Dukes laughed at the statement then proceeded to say "When he gets a guy like Phillip Parrish on his team.. then claim to be a contender for the AL Championship."

Jose Martinez of the Minnesota White Caps took offense to all the talk going on between the other teams and we could tell that he wasn't very happy when he was reported saying "Who the hell are those guys? We hold the 2nd best record in the AL and we are only like 7 games out of our division. We have the best all around team."

"Everyone has an opinion on their team" said Oswaldo Navarro of Boston. "Some teams are proving it and some teams are struggling." It's funny that Navarro said this being that his Boston Beaneaters are one of the teams falling apart even after that huge trade that sent SP Bernie Alvarez to Tampa Bay. Navarro is a potential AL MVP candidate this year and he will most likely be the Rookie of the year as well. I'm sure he wants to add World Series champion to that list as well. let's jump to the NL for a moment.

The NL North, led by Chicago just like in season 1 has a pretty convincing lead at this point. But like last year that lead can go away pretty fast if you fall into a slump.Vic Colume will try to help Chicago fend off the Detroit Wolverines which are right there waiting for them to make a mistake. Billy Ray Bailey, Detroit's top hitter was asked if they could make up the 7.5 games that they are behind and he said "Chicago is a good team, they haven't been consistent this year and we hope they do enough wrong to let us slip by them."

The same can be said about the 3rd place player in that division as well with a Pedro Beltran having a very disappointing year Ottawa finds themselves 9.5 games back and puzzled to why this is happening. Other owners in the league are pleasantly surprised by the misfortune of Ottawa. That brings us to Cleveland, what can be said about them? They are in rebuild mode with their new owner holding a lot of major talent in the minors we may see them as a contender in the next 1 or 2 seasons.

When talking about the NL in general you have to talk about Durham. Durham is the best team in the Majors according to the record they hold. They have arguably the best Pitching rotation in the Majors as well. We had the chance to talk to a few players around the NL about Durham. First person we asked about Durham was Albert Wall of the Omaha Spikes and he said "I hope we don't have to face them if we make the playoffs..Atleast not right away.."

We also had the chance to talk to SP Mark Post of the Atlanta Black Crackers.. "i have lost both the games I pitched against them.. They are very tough to beat.." Mark Post was rated one of the best pitchers coming into this year and was predicted to do very well. His record is only 7-8 so the best has yet to be seen by him.

Durham maybe in the drivers seat right now as far as making the playoffs. They will need to play hard when playoff time rolls around for sure because teams like Oakland and WC Hopeful Tampa Bay will not go down without a fight.

Later today or tomorrow I will go in depth and talk about each teams "MVP"
