Back in the day, the Boston Beaneaters boasted one of the MLB's most formidable offenses - who can after all, forget that incredible 1894 lineup?
A year after finished 6th in the ML in runs scored (941) and 1st in batting average (.293) Beaneaters GM "Keosawa" announced the retooled Boston Beaneaters lineup today for season three, pending a physical for Brian Washington and the clearance of a trade to bring CF Philip Parrish to Boston:
1. Phil Parrish, CF.
Parrish becomes the leadoff man for the Beaneaters after being a MVP awards finalist for Albuquerque in season two. He hit .336 with 56 HRs, 144 RBIs, 127 Runs, and stole 28 bases.
2. Jocko Sexson, 3B
The 26-year-old Sexson was a trade deadline acquisition for the Beaneaters last season and finished his first full year in the ML batting .271 with 35 HRs, 109 RBIs, and 29 SBs.
3. Lawrence Neal, C.
After signing a 5-year deal worth around $26 million in the spring, the Beaneaters' catcher is slotted 3rd in the lineup after hitting .296 with 30 HRs and 80 RBIs in season two.
4. Oswaldo Navarro, 1B.
Just 24 years old, last year's AL Rookie of the Year will bat cleanup. He will continue to improve upon last season's numbers: .347, 124 Runs, 44 HRs, and 118 RBIs.
5. Neifi Domingo, DH.
Boston's big bat (59 HRs, 143 RBIs last season) will move to fifth in the order so that the better baserunner, Neal, can shift to third. Domingo will hope to challenge for the league lead in home runs again this season.
6. Billy Leonard, LF.
The 30-year-old Leonard experienced a breakout season last year, batting .324 with 93 Runs, 32 HRs, and 88 RBIs.
7. Steven Dougherty, 2B.
Dougherty will bat 7th in the lineup as he showed flashes of becoming a five-tool player last season: .270, 111 Runs, 28 HRs, 105 RBIs, and 20 SBs.
8. J.D. Krivda, RF.
Krivda has the speed (96) to be a leadoff hitter but lost the job due to poor baserunning. Now, his job will be to improve upon his limited time as a late-season Boston acquisition last year (.306, 34 Runs in 52 games) and drive in runs.
9. Brian Washington, SS.
Washington bats ninth because of his ability to get on base and set the table for Philip Parrish - the Louisville import hit .289 with 50 RBIs and 66 Runs last season while playing for the world champions.
