01/09/2009 marks the day the Philadelphia Stars made sure they were playoff bound.. Not only did they acquire All Star Slugger Valerio Pizzaro. They managed to lock up All Star SP Cristobal Velezquez as well. Pizzaro is hitting .297 with 18 home runs for Montreal this season and Velezquez is 4-2 with a 2.69 era for Oakland. The deal for Velezquez was to replace who they gave up in the Pizzaro trade. 23 yr old SP, Harold Blair. Blair is currently 8-1 on the season with a 3.42 era.
Will these acquisitions help Philly overcome Boston's high intensity offense? From what I can tell from the deals made Philly just became the new favorite in the East. They have a shot at taking over the division lead for the second season in a row.
