Another day, another series of rumors grip Double Day. With impending free agency almost a clock's strike away, teams feverishly are looking to move players:
Tampa Bay's Big Names Made Available
- The Tampa Bay Seminoles have put not just RF Pat Brantley on the block, but have opened up discussions for SP Steven Hollandsworth as well. Hollandsworth has long been the one untouchable on Tampa Bay's roster, but the stalwart righty may be relocating if Tampa can acquire, among other things, young, top-notch starting pitching.
Albuquerque Looks to Move More Players; Monarchs Require Pitching
- The Dukes have put both RF Jose Martinez and SP Kid Whitaker on the block - they join CF Pedro Galvez, who was made available during our last rumor mill, as players that Albuquerque would consider, if given the opportunity, moving.
- The Monarchs have jumped into the fray, announcing that they are looking to acquire starting pitching. Among the names being tossed around in a potential deal are Mitch Palmer and Jose Martinez.
Big Names...On the Move?
- Some very big names have been thrown around as players with new potential destinations. Virgil Hogan, the great young starter from St. Louis, was recently made available. So too was both Hoss Collins and Harold Blair from the Oakland Oaks. All three young starters, it would seem, would command high asking prices. For Blair and Collins, Oakland is looking to secure a top-tier bat, at the very least. The Maroons could use Hogan as a catalyst to bring in a similarly great hitting talent in a multi-player deal.
What's Montreal Up To?
- A number of names have been considered as potential trade pieces for Montreal. Among them are Jay Weston and Bud Wiltsie; the Shamrocks might also be considering moving Placido Salinas for the right deal.
