23-year-old Kid Sadler has long been a phenom in the making, an unusually gifted power hitter even by sluggers' standards. The 6'6" Sadler has long possessed both the brute strength and uncanny ability to swing the bat that has made him the star attraction of Salt Lake City's minor league system.

This season, the Trappers are a surprising 13-9, and headlining the resurgence in Salt Lake City is Sadler. Last season, the young catcher was merely mortal, batting .278 with 26 HR and 77 RBIs in 110 games. This season, Sadler has hit the cover off the ball, to the tune of a .367 average and 25 runs batted in.

The young catcher appears to be on the verge of a breakthrough, in which he may very soon join the conversation as being potentially one of the best catchers in the league. He has helped place Salt Lake City's offense into a position of prominence - the Trappers rank fourth in the ML in runs scored, with 144. Last season, the Trappers scored 876 runs, good for seventh in the ML.

Yet this season, they've seemingly joined the elite offenses in the majors, due in part to Sadler's quick transition to the majors. On a team with young offensive talent like standout third baseman Clarence Vaughn or 24-year-old Angel Marquez, Sadler, the baby of the bunch at all of 23 years of age, sticks out like a sore thumb.

Together with Bob Scutaro--who is hitting an astounding .390 with 19 RBIs--Sadler has been a part of one of the league's most dangerous offensive explosions; as a team, the Trappers seem poised to begin their ascent in season four.

How quickly they rise to prominence will depend on the 23-year-old Oklahoma native.
